On either side of the dirt road that winds through the Carrizo Plain National Monument protected area of southern California, meadows studded with wild flowers stretch out to meet distant foothills. A carpet of gold, interspersed with violets and reds at times. The sky is blue and clear and there’s a sense of great peace.
Further on, from one of the two small campgrounds, a trail climbs up into the hills to end at a lookout where, below, the meadows and undulating hills stretch into the distance.
This print is part of the Heron Road series – inspired by a year-long road trip along the back roads of North America.
